Description
This module takes you into the world of reporting on current events (with the help lots of news related vocabulary and reported speech), expressing your belief and exchanging opinions (especially fun with the use of the passive voice) and generally enriching your English by expanding on your ability to describe events (where adverb-adjective combinations are king!) Talk about skiing holidays, weird medieval beliefs and more in this module.
Module 14 covers three chapters of the fourth level of English:
English 4d: They said we would make the headlines!
They said we would make the headlines! Talk about front-page news and tabloids running stories. Learning all these advanced news collocations will certainly make it easier to discuss current events in English. And the only way to correctly talk about who said what is to practice using reported speech. Help Janine report the news and remember why it is important to use reported questions correctly.
English 4e: Opinions on the subjects were divided
Express your beliefs about making assumptions, but don’t cast doubt on your friend’s new discovery! Have you ever coloured someone’s judgement? Discuss these collocations and more, then learn some fun facts about medieval beliefs: did you know, for example, that eels were used for paying rent? Used by whom? It doesn’t matter! Welcome to the joys of the passive voice where actions matter above all.
English 4f: Surprisingly it was reasonably cheap!
How good are you at describing things and how much detail do you go into? Learn to combine adjectives and adverbs just like a native speaker. Do you speak perfect English or do you speak English perfectly? After completing this unit, you will never again wonder whether to use quick or quickly, fluent or fluently. Read about the Browns’ skiing holiday and expand your vocabulary even more.
